Adult members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the “Mormon” church) who have participated in certain temple ceremonies are obligated to wear a special undergarment called the “Temple Garment” as a symbol and reminder of the covenants or promises they have made with God as a part of the ceremony. These ceremonies are encouraged, but not required, for adult Mormons. (Those serving as missionaries or in priesthood leadership positions are usually required to have participated except in circumstances where traveling to a temple would be a significant financial burden.)
